Iowa College NAIA, D2, D3, and FCS Scorecard Week 9

Week 9 as we are in the back half of the season where the Teachers come out of the teachers lounge and the gradebook starts to focus on final exams. We have a Just Win Baby and get top grades approach, and if you can’t pull them out not a lot of moral victories will be given high grades through the rest of the year.

October the 31st 2026 at the FCS, D2, D3, and NAIA level in Iowa our SGI teams put up some impressive victories.

Star Students of Week 9

Wartburg A+ The Knights keep steamrolling A-R-C Opponents with lopsided scores. They only put up 63 on Simpson this week with 675 yards of offense (348 Rushing). The Knights close with games against rivals Central and Coe the next two weeks. Can anything slow the Orange Army?

Dordt A+ – Joel Penners Men in Black from Sioux Center continue to roll and when you put up an 80 spot (80-14 win over the men from Tree Town Waldorf) you have aced the Saturday test.

Luther A+ – One of the best stories in Iowa College Football this fall. In the previous 5 years the Norse have won 4 games total. This year the Norse have won 6 games total, what a great turnaround on the blue turf in Decorah. Coach Troche and team are not done yet with a big closing game against in-state rival Grinnell. Also, 492 on the ground is impressive.

Top Performers of the Weekend

We had some top performances to watch yesterday and a lot of great teams aced their big tests this week.

Northwestern College A – The fellas from Orange City, Iowa are having another strong year. The team we like to call the Cara-Cara or Blood Red Oranges are led by Colby Duncan and ranked #18 in the country for a reason.

Morningside A: In a big GPAC game against highly regarded Midland (who came in 7-1) handled their business very well and stayed on track as you would expect the #4 in the nation team to do 40-24.

St. Ambrose A: This Battle in Lamoni, IA was definitely the game of the weekend. Phil Stabacks Graceland Yellow Jackets and St. Ambrose led by QB Reggie Moody had a shootout of all shootouts. Almost 1,100 yards on offense between the teams (1,099 to be exact) and the Bees went for 2 and the win with 14 seconds to go and converted. What a game. The Bees host Grand View next week at home in a huge first place battle on the bluffs or Davenport.

Grandview A: In the What A Game 2 part of the weekend. William Penn and GV played a fiercely fought game for the Rock and Ladder Trophy. The Vikings Won 36-34 on a last-play FG in Des Moines. Both teams fought like the fierce rivals they are with a classic ending.

Coe College A: What y’all have? I’ll have some Quincy Drummer please, as QD ran for over 200 yards and the KoHawks rolled 48-21 over Nebraska Wesleyan to stay undefeated and atop the A-R-C with Wartburg.

Central College A: The Dutch are back on track and handled Loras 40-28. With some key early season injuries to overcome and a weird schedule with only 3 home games this year the “Fellas from Pella” are now 5-3 on the season.

U of Dubuque A: The best QB statistically from an Iowa HS in 26 is hands down Joey Rhomberg from Mt. Vernon Iowa (across any football level this fall – Less than 10 Iowa HS are starting QBs from D1 to D3 Nationally). The Spartans continued their strong season with an impressive 48-7 win in Storm Lake over Buena Vista as Joey was 16-24 for 355 yards and 4 TD’s.

Upper Iowa A: The Cardiac Peacocks went to McKendree in Illinois and played another nail biter and came away with a 3 point victory. Only two games all year has been decided by more than 3 points for the 5-4 Peacocks who are taking years off their fans lives this fall with the stress.

UNI A: Man what a great year the Panthers are putting together in the premier FCS conference in the country. The Purple guys are fighting with much fewer resources than the Dakota Schools and others in the MVC but are battling at 4-4 and not out of the playoffs with a big 45-23 win over Indiana State.

Drake A: It’s year one for the Top Gun Offense in DSM and the Bulldogs had a true freshman QB lead them to a big victory in Kentucky. We are excited to see the Dawgs get back on track.

Cornell A: Coach Ritchie and the boys got a dominant win in Mt. Vernon. Awesome to see the progress for the Rams who are playing alot of youngsters and building roster size. P.S. we think the Rame have the best unis in the state.

William Penn B-: Coach B and the boys have always been great to our team so we have a soft spot in our hearts for the Statesmen from Osky. They fought hard and almost took the Rock and Ladder Trophy back home. What a game and a shame either team had to lose this classic in a great rivalry.

Briar Cliff C- They lost a tight game at home to Hastings, but the Chargers don’t quit.

Graceland C- : So close in a classic game in the Battle of the Stingers to come up short well stings. But man what a game that it is shame someone had to lose.

Simpson D+ Ran into the Wartburg buzzsaw, Mt. Mercy D+ fell 45-22 to the Culver Stockton “Butter Burgers”, Clarke D+ Battled but fell by 17 to Peru State 30-13, Waldorf D- had a rough day, Buena Vista D- tough day.
