Every week, we grade Iowa College teams against expectations using the Massey Rating Lines.
The Grade Books this week are in, and we are going to finally award our first-ever SGI Doctor Degree of Football to the Grand View Vikings. This award is long overdue, but we did not want to award the Degree until the time was right, so we would not jinx the Vikings.
SGI’s Doctor of Football Degree is awarded to the Grand View Vikings
The Football Gods Rockne, Lombardi, Shula, Bear Bryant, etc. have been patiently waiting to grant this degree while GV Football has built an incredible academic career. They did not wish to grant the Doctoral Degree before the streak ended.
So, this weekend Grandview got a C-, but for 73 regular season games the Vikings have stacked win after win. A great game between two of the best NAIA programs in the country that we got to thankfully cover from the Duke sidelines. The Rhodes Scholars of Iowa Football the Vikings have been a 4.0 Program for so long and for the first time in close to a decade in the regular season, they fell just short.
Top Iowa Football Students this week –
Morningside A+ with a big win at Dordt C-. This was a close line with Morningside and a close game between two top NAIA Teams. The Battle of the Sioux (City beat Center) in a great game. One of the best NAIA Rivalries in the Country and the Mustangs pulled out a close win. Dordt fell short but is one tough FB team.
William Penn A: Favored by 17.5 but left no doubt in a big win over Mo. Baptist. Good Win means an A Paper.
Upper Iowa B+ a 12.5 underdog on a super long road trip to Upper Michigan and lost by 1 in OT. Kicking games woes hurt, but they performed against expectations. The Peacocks let one they really had a great chance for the upset slip away.
Waldorf C: Its not a win but closer than the 28.5 line. David Calloway and the Warriors are getting better up in Tree Town as they rebuild in his first year.
Mt. Mercy C: Almost and covered the 3.5 line, but its a long road for any first year playing football ever program. Progress and fight on Saturday, and a great 1st home game atmosphere bode well for future years.
Graceland D: lost a tough one at home being favored by 1. Tough fight but tough to lose a close one. St. Ambrose D-: Off to a strong 2-0 start the Bees took a step back this week and fell to Baker by more than the 10.5 points they were given.
Briar Cliff and Clarke D-: Tough days against tough clubs, but neither came close to their cover.
Northwestern College F+: Midland is a tough FB team and was only getting 3.5, but to lose to a team who hasn’t beaten you in 25 years. That is a throw the paper in the waste basket followed by a match day. The Red Raiders are looking for consistency this year.
P.S. UNI we are not giving a grade. Getting sent in to a Big Ten Coliseum and into the Lions Den for a buy game is what you have to do to fund FCS teams, but it is an apples and oranges comparison. UNI hopefully came out relatively healthy and can get ready for the rugged MVC Season.
