At Sports Guys Iowa with our shows, we run into great stories as we interview past and current Iowa High School players, coaches, and administrators each and every week.

On the Chad Harberts show this week, we ran into one such great story….what was called the Iowa High School Game of the Century. It holds the distinction of being the only high school game ever played at Carver Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City.

As we sat down with former Linn-Mar BB Great Scott Anderson (Ohio State College Basketball) and he talked about being in what was called at the time, “The Game of the Century” which was held at Carver Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City to accommodate the huge crowd in 1984.

KCRG had a look back at the Game of the Century a few years back that Scott and Jeff Hrubes (Coe College MBB All-time great) were on that gave some great insight on how big that game was.

The game came down to a last-second game-winning shot by Tim Batterson as Kennedy prevailed as they marched to their eventual state championship in 1984.

The History of Iowa High School Basketball is rich with great stories

We love telling those Iowa High School stories (Chad Harberts is an Iowa High School Sports history buff) and how the game at the high school level has evolved and changed over the years.

Scott Anderson’s guest appearance on our show this week was a fun look back on a great time in Iowa High School Sports.

As always, we appreciate your comments and support.
