SGI Game Recaps – 11.8.25 NAIA, DIII, DII and FCS

Week ten is in the books for Iowa’s twenty-two NAIA/D2/ FCS football programs that we cover. There are 10 teams in Iowa still with a shot at the postseason in their divisions NAIA, D3, D2, and FCS (Pioneer League). That clearly shows the quality of the programs in the state – (All teams in the playoff hunt are noted in Bold Italics)

November 8th, 2025- Game results

FCS Drake fell in a mistake filled game at home in Des Moines to St. Thomas 20-13. The bad news is they lost a game the good news is Drake controls its own destiny as they sit a game up in the Pioneer Football League standings at 6-3 (5-1 in league). If the Bulldogs take care of business, they will win the PFL outright. They have a tough road game at Dayton on Nov.15th before closing the season at home against Moorehead State.

D2 Upper Iowa moved to 8-2 with a dominant win in Fayette against Quincy 41-8. The Peacocks ran for over 400 yard to get to a program record 8 wins. For Upper Iowa 2025 was the first time they ever had back-to-back seasons of seven or more wins. With 15 wins in two consecutive years these are the best two seasons EVER. The Peacocks started playing football in 1908, so over 118 seasons this season is only the 2nd Time they have won 8 games.

The Peacocks travel to play the #12 University of Indianapolis Greyhounds next week in a HUGE Game. The D2 Playoffs for the very first time in program history is there for the taking.

NAIA Scores

#1 Grandview (9-0) hammered the “Butter Burgers” Culver- Stockton 62-7 in Des Moines. They have now have won 24 straight games over the past two seasons (2024 – 15-0 National Champs). The Playoffs await the Vikings.

#19 William Penn (9-1) beat Graceland (3-6) in Oskaloosa 59-20 to make the NAIA playoffs a certainty (we are calling them in). The Statesmen are one of the great stories in NAIA Football this year (they have not had a winning season in a long time), and a huge credit to the Statesmen coaching staff and players for the special season.

#10 Morningside (8-2) continued to pummel the opposition with a 63-20 win over Mt. Marty at home. They are 6-1 in the conference and will host a conference championship game next week against #6 Dordt (9-0) who manhandled Concordia at home to remain unbeaten in the GPAC.

St. Ambrose (4-6) fell on the road in a close game to Peru State in Nebraska 28-24.

Clarke (2-8) got a big win on the road in Missouri at William Woods 27-23

Briar Cliff (6-5) beat Waldorf (0-9) 28-6 on the road in Forest City. The Chargers are building under Coach Shane LaDage and staff impressively for a program, and this year’s 6 wins are tied for the most in program history.

Northwestern College (6-3) beat Doane 51-20 at home to keep their playoff hopes alive. They must win out and may need some help to make their usual visit to the NAIA Playoffs.

NCAA Division III Scores

#18 Central (8-1) defeated Simpson (5-4) 35-10 after being down 10-0. The Dutch will face Coe College (7-2) in a HUGE game for both programs. Central is a win and in situation for their home game in Pella. their only loss is to Wartburg and they have a big win against Randolph Macon an NCAA DIII playoff team.

Coe College lost to Wartburg by 10 and by 10 on the road to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls who will be likely #3 or #4 in the nation this week. River Falls has absolutely annihilated UW-Whitewater 52-14 and UW-LaCrosse 41-7 the last two weeks (both 10 ten teams and national title contenders almost every year). If Coe wins, it’s in the committees’ hands (Coe earned a very hard-to-earn at-large bid the past two seasons to the playoffs). Coe College manhandled Loras (2-7) 63-7 on Saturday.

Buena Vista (3-6) won at home 34-21 versus Nebraska Wesleyan University.

University of Dubuque (4-6) beat Luther (0-9) in Decorah 27-20 to conclude the Spartans season.

Grinnell (2-7) beat Lawrence 63-6.

Cornell College (3-6) fell at home to Illinois College 24-0.

#6 Wartburg (9-0) had an off week after clinching an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III football playoffs last week.

The postseason will soon be here. How many Iowa teams will make it to promised land? Having 10 of 22 teams in the running is a historic fall for these 22 Iowa programs.

As always, we appreciate your comments and support.
