SGI Women’s Basketball Power Rankings – D3

Our first SGI Women’s Basketball Power Rankings for the basketball season are out. In Division 3, we have 10 Colleges in the state – Buena Vista, Central, Coe, Cornell, Dubuque, Grinnell, Loras, Luther, Simpson, and Wartburg that we cover.

It is hard at the Holiday break to properly rank the teams as the non-conference schedules vary widely, but now that conference play is starting, we can start our SGI weekly power rankings.

So, we expect a lot of movement in the rankings after the new year as it becomes more clear on which teams are rising and contending for post season March Madness basketball.

Between the Baseline and Basket – SGI Basketball Coverage

So, our first SGI Power Ranking for the 2025-26 Season for the 10 Division III Women’s Teams that we cover is as follows.

Coe College at 8-3 (3-0 in the A-R-C) went into the break playing the number 3 (UW-Oshkosh) and Number 19 (Bethel, MN) teams in close losses on the road at the UW Oshkosh Invitational as our clear number 1 team in our rankings. Simpson, UD, and Central are all playing well in the early part of the A-R-C conference season. You can hear our Fun Podcast interview with Central Coach Justin Weiland below.

Cornell is off to a 6-4 start in the Midwest Conference. Buena Vista made a pre-Christmas trip to Daytona Beach in Florida for a holiday tourney where they won both games. Wartburg, Luther, Loras, and Grinnell round out our first power rankings.

Coe College is off to a great start. Dr. Bowser has a cool podcast interview with Coe Assistant Coach Hale Rickles that dives into Coe’s season so far with some great advice from a former Iowa High School star (Hale played for Solon in the 2A State Tournament) and at Luther College that contains some great advice for Iowa High School Basketball players who want to play at the next level.

In the Women’s ranks who will rise and fall as we break into the new year and chase a postseason berth in the NCAA DIII’s Playoffs this year.

As always, we appreciate your comments and support.
