This winter and into 2026, we will cover 22 teams on our weekly men’s and women’s BB update. All the Iowa NAIA teams, DII, and DIII teams from Briar Cliff to William Penn.
The season is starting to heat up. Early on Northwestern College is strong as expected and #3 in the country. University of Dubuque is undefeated as is Coe College and both look like top squads.
NAIA and DII Men’s Basketball Update
Northwestern College is off to a 7-2 start and a #3 National Ranking in NAIA. Jesse Van Kalsbeek from MOC-Floyd Valley, IA is off to a blistering start, averaging 31.9 ppg and 13.3 rpg.. The Raiders are playing in a holiday tournament in Tennessee this Friday and Saturday and playing a top 10 NAIA team.
P.S. I wanted to give a shout out to the NWC SID and Communication team. Their efforts on creating an easy to view and use Game Notes is much appreciated. It makes covering the Raiders easy (and ghey will get more coverage from SGI because of that work.
William Penn is off to a 6-3 start for program with a great basketball history.
Grandview is 6-3. Briar Cliff is off to a strong start at 5-2.
Waldorf is 3-6. Graceland is 3-2. Mount Mercy 4-5 . Clarke is off to a 3-7 start. Morningside is 4-4. St. Ambrose is off to a 3-5 mark. Dordt is off to a 4-5 start.
Division II Upper Iowa is off to a good start at 3-1 in Fayette.
NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Update
Coe College (5-0) is rolling and had an exhibition game against D1 Western Illinois that did not count but they were ever so close to winning. We had a great interview with Head Coach John Payan on the Coe MBB team and key players that you can listen to below to learn more about this year’s Kohawks.
The University of Dubuque the predicted preseason winner of the American Rivers Conference is off to a 4-0 start. Luther is rolling and 4-1. Loras, Wartburg and Central are all 3-1. Buena Vista is 2-1 and Simpson is 2-4 to round out the 8 American Rivers Conference teams that we cover at SGI
In the Midwest Conference, Grinnell is 3-2 The Pioneers are predicted to be second in the Midwest Conference preseason poll. Cornell College is (0-6)
University of Dubuque the predicted preseason winner of the American Rivers Conference is off to a 2-0 start. Buena Vista has not played a game yet in 2024-2025.
It is going to be a fun Basketball season. Northwestern is off to a great start and #3 in NAIA. UD is off to a great start as predicted. traditional power William Penn and Grandview are off to solid starts.. Grinnell is piling up points and predicted to have a strong season in the MWC. Those are just a few of the storylines to follow this winter and into 2026.
