SGI – The Medium Peach – August 17, 2025

Every Sunday, we publish the SGI Medium Peach that highlights key articles for the week in one place for easy reading.

This is a fun homage to the DSM Registers Sunday Sports section, “The Big Peach,” which used to be printed on Peach-Colored paper and be sitting on your porch waiting to be read.

A big thank you all our readers as the first 23 days of @Sportsguysiowa have been so much fun. The response has been outstanding and way more than we expected with over 10,000 readers. We launched our Instagram page yesterday SportsGuysIowa, and will have a facebook page up this week.

Our podcast will be starting soon and we have more fun stuff to announce soon. We are 100% volunteer so if you want to add some coverage of your favorite Iowa Small College or University or High School team please just contact us thru X or using our emails.

Our top 3 stories of the week (in read article ranking – please just click on the link to read)

  1. SGI Preview – Loaded Grandview Vikings Eyeing Championship Repeat – SportsGuysIowa– SGI Co -Editor B Lenny (Ghost) preview for Grandview Football in 2025. The Vikings are the defending NAI National Championship and are loaded. EJ Peterson is the Vikings new leader as head coach. He has been a key part of the coaching staff and a former Grandview Graduate. Jackson Waring (De Moines Christian) won the NAIA National Player of the Year. Our SGI previews are “Phil Steele” style with four-year statistical trending and a roster analysis of every former Iowa High School player on the roster (Grandview has 138 former Iowa HS players this fall). The Vikings have a lot of great storylines to follow this fall and we are excited to cover them as they are almost certainly going to be the #1 Ranked team in the Country when those are published in late August.
  2. SGI Preview – Morningside University Football 2025 – SportsGuysIowa The Morningside Mustangs from Sioux City, Iowa are one of the top NAIA Football teams in the Nation every year, winning the NAIA Football National Championships in 2018, 2019, and 2021. They are defending GPAC champs and will be again one of the top NAIA teams in the country. Morningside has 94 Former Iowa HS players on the roster this fall.
  3. SGI Preview – Cornell College Football 2025 – SportsGuysIowa– The Cornell College Rams start a new era with Iowa High School Hall of Fame Coach Curt Ritchies moving up the road from Williamsburg, Iowa to take over the Rams in 2025. Cornell has 18 Former Iowa HS players on the roster this fall (we expect that number may go up in 2026 with Coach Ritchie in charge).

Football kickoffs are happening next weekend at the FCS level

Between now and the season start we will have multiple Iowa Small College and University preview each day (FCS, D2, D3 and NAIA) to share. We are going to put extra focus on those Iowa High School players on those 23 teams this fall.

We will be sharing fun data points. The above is the Iowa Analysis for all 10 Iowa Based NCAA DIII teams. 432 former Iowa HS football players on their rosters. 42% of all players. How many Iowans will be playing on Iowa teams this fall is going to be interesting as we go through each preview. Ghost and I have a friendly wager on what that number may be, but it’s going to be big.

For this first year we will have to just cover the young men and women playing inside the state borders, but there are many former Iowa High School players playing for schools outside the borders to follow also. We will do our best to cover the kids not playing at the high D1 level *Please note: We follow the In-State Clones, Hawks, and UNI Panthers and kids playing at other High D1 teams, but there are so many great reporters and publications out there covering those teams that are already available for you to read that we encourage you to follow those players on those platforms.
