Week 8 as we are in the second half of the season where the Teachers come out of the teachers lounge and the gradebook starts to give lower and higher scores. Just Win Baby and get top grades, and if you can’t pull them out not a lot of moral victories will be given high grades thru the rest of the year.
October the 14th 2026 at the FCS, D2, D3, and NAIA level in Iowa our SGI teams put up some impressive victories.
SGI Star Student(s) of the Week
St. Ambrose A+ The Bees are having an excellent year and now are 4-0 in the conference. Impressive work in Davenport to building a foundation this year and beyond. They put up an impressive 56-20 win over Mt. Mercy.
William Penn A+ coming off a tough game where their mistakes killed them, refocused to say the least. An Angry bunch of Statesmen put up a 70 burger on Clarke.
Wartburg A+ The Knights got down fast at Dubuque and were under alot of pressure on the bluff. Down 14 in a hurry and facing a powerful Spartan offense on the road. The defense rose up in the games of undefeated conference teams and the Knights pulled away to an impressive 33-14 victory with many key 4th down stops.
Coe A+ In our SGI text chain where we follow all the games there were alot of WOW Simpson is taking it to Coe comments. Down 24-7 with three minutes to go in the 3rd quarter the Kohawks put up 21 straight in furious comeback to win 28-24.
Wartburg and Coe have been 1-2 in the A-R-C for the past 3 years and were predicted 1-2 again this year. We thought maybe the top tier would change on Saturday. There is still time in the season but both of them passed big tests this Saturday.
Other Top of the Class Performers in Week 8
Central A The Dutch rolled and are starting to flex their muscles with a strong 56-21 home win over Buena Vista.
Northwestern College A The Blood Red Oranges rolled east for the short trip to Forest City and showed why they are one the best NAIA Teams and programs in the country with a 68-10 win.
Morningside A Another of the best NAIA programs in the country this year and every year dominated Concordia 61-21 in another dominant and workmanlike win that you expect from Steve Ryan’s Maroon boys. Iowan Max Hough just rolled with 117 on the ground.
Grinnell A Getting to a 5th win in a grind it out affair over Cornell 7-3 is another huge one for Coach Barnes and the Pioneers. Luke Konczal LB and Iowa HS prep was everywhere as he usually is and had 12 tackles at the Pioneers grit led to a close win.
Grand View A: Consistent Dominance each and every week. Another 41-17 Win. One of the best coached and most efficient teams in the country each and every year.
Dordt A The Defenders have built one heck of an NAIA powerhouse program and as newer program kind of lurk in the shadows of the GPAC. They are a NAIA Natty contender again this fall and put up another impressive 41-13 win. Down 13-3 the Defenders just said, “Let’s go” and dominated after that.

Tough Day at the Office
Dubuque and Simpson C- both played well and just could not convert on their early leads and close the games against two strong teams. Briar Cliff C- dominated the stat sheet with a close to 4-1 yardage advantage but 4 INTs killed them as they fell in OT 26-20.
Cornell C- Battled hard and you can see the progress in Coach Ritchies 2nd year but could not convert in crunch time and fell by 4 to rival Grinnell.
Upper Iowa D+ Lost a heartbreaker and another 1 point game – Penalties and Special Teams gaffe. The path to the GLVC crown is still possible but very narrow. Drake D+ Leading the 4th quarter and giving up 13 to lose going away to Butler was tough at home. UNI losses 21-17 to Southern Illinois. Graceland fell 47-17, Buena Vista, Mount Mercy, and Clarke all had tough days. Loras Duhawks lost 69-48 to Nebraska Wesleyan which is along bus ride home to Dubuque.
As Always we appreciate your comments and support.
